History of FTHCM of Richmond, Inc.
From the Heart Church Ministries of Richmond, Virginia came into existence as a result of the Reformation Teachings by our Episcopal Pastor, Dr. John A. Cherry. Christians in Richmond began to respond to the message that the church needed to be reformed. As a result, some left their former churches out of their desire to receive the uncompromised Word of God.
A Focus Group was formed from these Believers. They met weekly for Bible Study where they viewed a videotape of the previous Sunday’s message taught by Dr. Cherry at the Parent Church in Maryland. The group began to commute to Temple Hills, Maryland to attend the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Service at the FTHCM Parent Church.
Shortly after Dr. Cherry decided that it was time to establish a local church in Richmond, Virginia. On Sunday, May 21, 2000, 11 people from the Richmond Focus Group joined at From the Heart Church Ministries in Temple Hills, Maryland. On the following Sunday, May 28, 2000, From the Heart Church Ministries of Richmond had its first service. The church began having services at the Wyndham Hotel on Laburnum Avenue every Sunday at 4:00 p.m. In three months, the congregation grew to 99 members. The first New Members Orientation class was held at the Wyndham Hotel on July 22, 2000 and ministers from the Parent Church conducted the first Perfecting Class on October 7, 2000.
From the Heart Church Ministries of Richmond purchased their first church building located at 2401 Byron Street. On September 3, 2000, the first service was held in the new church home. In October, significant building and property renovations were undertaken. An additional bathroom was installed, the interior of the entire facility was painted and the parking lot was paved. Other improvements made were the wiring and installation of sound and telephone systems.
At the first Members Meeting on Sunday, February 11, 2001, Dr. Cherry announced the appointment of Rev. John A. Cherry, II as the new pastor of From the Heart Church Ministries of Richmond. Rev. Cherry, II also continued to serve as the assistant pastor of the Parent Church. At that same meeting, it was announced that the first staff person — a church secretary was hired. The first ten service ministries were also established which included: Intercessory Prayer Ministry, Media Ministry, Membership Care Ministry, Men’s Fellowship, Music Ministry, New Converts Ministry, New Members Reception Ministry, Helps Ministry, Special Services Ministry and the Usher Board.
On Sunday, March 4, 2001, Dr. Cherry officiated the Dedication Service of the church building. Members, ministers and the Music Ministry from the Parent Church participated in the service. Weekly Bible Study also began in March of 2001.
Under the leader of Pastor John Cherry II, the membership increased from 99 members to 455 members and the building mortgage was paid in full. Due to the church growth, a full time pastor was needed. On June 1, 2003, Dr. Cherry came to a special Members Meeting and announced that the leadership of From the Heart Church Ministries of Richmond would change. Dr. Cherry appointed Rev. James Z. Ransom as the new pastor.
Under Pastor Ransom’s leadership, From the Heart Church Ministries of Richmond has continued to grow spiritually, administratively and financially. Church membership has grown by approximately 600 members. Tuesday Noon Day Exhortation and Prayer began on April 4, 2006. Terence Jennings was appointed as the Elder-in-Charge of the Expansion Location from 2012 thru 2017. Rev.
